Am I healthy enough for the dental implants procedure?

Usually, a person who is well enough for fixed bridgework or any tooth extractions is healthy enough for a dental implant. At times, we do have patients with general health conditions that contraindicate implant procedures and this can be discussed during your first consultation with Dr. Hagi. In general, the bone location and quantity as well as overall health condition- these factors play a key role in determining if you can go in for the All-on-4 implant procedure. At your first consultation, Dr. Hagi will assess your overall health as well as review these key factors and discuss with you the feasibility of the procedure in your specific case.

I have been rejected for traditional dental implants? Can I opt for this one? Why?

Almost 90 percent of patients who have been rejected for traditional implants can opt for this one instead. For nearly all the All-on-4 treatment, there is no need for sinus augmentation or bone grafting. The frontal jaw bone is dense and this is why the traditional implant technique which involves placing the implant straight in the bone requires such a lengthy healing period. Our All-on-4 technique eliminates the problem by fixing the rear implants angularly, allowing a longer implant to be affixed. Since the sinus cavity does not have be touched with this technique, it is also a much less invasive procedure than the conventional implants.

If you live outside Toronto and you want to know if the All-on-4 technique is right for you, you can ask for Dr. Hagi’s expert opinion without having to make a visit to our clinic. Just send in a digital copy of your CT Scan or X-Rays so that we can assess your case and give you a clear picture of whether or not you can opt for this procedure. Remember to mention any existing health problems you may have so that we can factor that in when we review your case.

Are dental implants a tried and proven treatment method or is this still experimental?

Dental implants are tried and proven techniques with a long successful history. In fact, implants are the most thoroughly researched dental procedure. No medical treatment is 100 percent successful and dental implant procedures are no exception. However, thanks to new technology, high success rates are very common with the most complex dental treatments especially if the procedure is carried out by an expert dental practitioner like Dr. Hagi.

Dr. Hagi has proven expertise across all implant dentistry aspects and he constantly updates his skills and knowledge to ensure he gives his best as dentist, teacher and mentor to other doctors.

What is the difference between the Hagi V4 treatment and traditional implants?

Traditional implants are like natural teeth and they give you great results too, especially if you get the procedure done by a qualified, highly experienced dentist. However, the Hagi V4 technique has a few more benefits to offer that can make these the best option for you in the long run. For starters the Hagi V4 does not come with a palate, since these are not bulky in the least, you do not find any change or discomfort while chewing foods. Getting your traditional implants done can become a very complex and time consuming process, often taking up to 1 to 2 years until completion. The traditional process usually necessitates bone grafting and sinus lifts which increases complexity. With Hagi V4 treatment, none of these is required, which is why you can get the job done in a single visit and recover quickly too, resuming your daily activities almost as soon as you walk out of the clinic.

I lost my teeth to gum disease but I do not like wearing “false teeth”. Can implants afford the natural appearance and function that I enjoyed before my teeth were lost?

At the Thornhill Smile Center we can replace your entire arch of teeth with our dental implants. Each individual has different needs and varying health/ teeth conditions and these have to be factored in while determining the most suitable type of implants for you. The purpose behind the concept of dental implants is to give the patient the ability to eat effortlessly and function socially as they would without tooth loss. So, yes, dental implants can give you the results you seek.

Where dental implants are concerned, are there risks of the body rejecting them?

Rejection occurs in implant procedures when vital organs have been transplanted. This is not a concern with dental implants because here tissue matching or blood typing is not a critical factor. With dental implants the success depends on your overall health condition, your ability to maintain proper hygiene and care for your implants as per our instructions. With proper care and periodic follow up with us, there is no reason why you should not enjoy your dental implants for life.

Is the placement of implants painful? How long does it take?

Typically, implants do not cause much post-operative discomfort and you can just take Tylenol or Advil for the next 1-3 days to manage the little pain that you may experience. During the procedure, we will give you anesthesia so that you feel no pain at all. The time taken for the procedure depends on your specific case. However, to give you a ball park figure, it can take thirty minutes to 2-4 hours.

Patients opting for the All-on-4 treatment will need to get some preliminary tests done before it can be started. These may include measurements, CT Scans and X Rays. In addition, the shape and colour of the teeth needs to be finalized and you may want to discuss the procedure and clarify queries with Dr. Hagi. Allocate a day to get these preliminaries completed before you come in for the procedure.

My friend had to wait 8 months before getting his permanent teeth with the All-on-4 technique. How can you do this in such a short time?

Yes, there are many dental practitioners offering All-on-4 treatment who require that you make several visits to them before it is completed. In fact, in these cases a number of processes have to be completed before the actual surgery can take place. One of the most critical tasks with these procedures is the fabrication of the dentures. Most dental practitioners outsource this part of the job and this is one reason for the repeated visits and the delay in completing the procedure. Once the implant is completed, the dentures now need to be converted so that they fit correctly.

At the Thornhill Smile Centre, Toronto, All-in-4 implants get done in minimum time with patients often leaving our centre with a final set of teeth within 24 hours of surgery. No waiting for months on end for healing and no delays. Since our procedure and all related tasks are all done in-house, we have complete control over every aspect of the procedure and we can work to the strictest deadlines.
